Caramel Chocolate Trifle
Ingredients:
For the Caramel Layer:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Chocolate Layer:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
For the Whipped Cream Layer:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 pound pound cake, cut into cubes
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Caramel Layer:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a deep amber color.
- Add the butter and stir until melted.
- Slowly add the heavy cream and salt, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
- Prepare the Chocolate Layer:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate and butter.
- Stir until the chocolate and butter are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Let cool to room temperature.
- Prepare the Whipped Cream Layer:
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the Trifle:
- In a trifle bowl or large glass bowl, add a layer of pound cake cubes.
- Drizzle some of the caramel sauce over the pound cake.
- Add a layer of the chocolate mixture.
- Add a layer of whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts and chocolate shavings or cocoa powder on top for garnish, if desired.
- Chill:
- Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
